Officials of the World Bank on Saturday inspected the ‘complete street project’ on Khader Nawaz Khan Road to explore the feasibility of funding innovative projects undertaken by the Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC).
As part of a project to develop complete streets with pedestrian facilities, the GCC has started work on four spots: Khader Nawaz Khan Road, Race Course Road, Arunachaleswarar Koil Street, and Monegar Choultry Road.
The ‘complete street project’ on Khader Nawaz Khan Road was delayed by a few months.
Minister K.N. Nehru had inaugurated the project in September 2023 and announced that it would be completed in 18 months.
“The shifting of civic utilities has been a challenge. The work is expected to be completed on July 15. The GCC will complete the Khader Nawaz Khan Road project on July 31. Other projects will be completed in March 2026,” said an official.
The complete streets will have a barrier-free pavement, rider water and rider sewer lines, cobblestone carriageway, dedicated duct for electricity lines, optic fibre cable and gas pipeline, a new storm-water drain, architectural lighting, seats, lighting bollards and planters.
The junctions of the stretch have been improved for traffic flow.
