Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Sunday issued directions to departments concerned to identify sites near dairy clusters in Delhi where biogas plants can be established.
Earlier in the day, she visited Mathura in Uttar Pradesh, where she inaugurated a biogas plant that produces CNG and organic fertilizer from cow dung.
“The Delhi government is pursuing similar initiatives and has already held discussions with dairy colony residents. Delhi’s 12,000+ dairies generate thousands of tons of cow dung daily, much of which flows into the Yamuna through drains,” a statement from the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) said.
“Proper disposal of cow dung is essential for making the Yamuna clean and pure again. Our government is serious about setting up bio-CNG plants and will soon begin work on two new projects near dairy colonies. This effort will help in cleaning the Yamuna and generate green energy,” the Chief Minister said.
She said that such plants are vital to the mission of making Delhi cleaner and restoring the sanctity of the Yamuna.
