BJP Member of Parliament from Chevalla Konda Vishweshwar Reddy and ABN Andhra Jyothi managing director V. Radhakrishna appeared before the Special Investigation Team (SIT) on Friday in connection with the phone-tapping case.
Mr. Radhakrishna was questioned by SIT officials for about an hour. His statement was recorded after investigators presented him with specific dates and times linked to intercepted phone calls.
BJP MP Konda Vishweshwar Reddy also appeared before the SIT.
According to SIT sources, statements of more than 10 journalists have already been recorded in connection with the case. Officials confirmed that the phone number of V6 Velugu CEO Ankam Ravi was also tapped. He has been informed and may appear for questioning if he chooses.
The SIT has not officially confirmed how many more journalists were subjected to surveillance.
The case began with the arrest of former Deputy Superintendent of Police (Special Intelligence Bureau) Praneeth Rao on 13 March 2024. He was taken into custody from his residence in Rajanna-Sircilla district after a complaint was filed by Additional SP D. Ramesh.
Praneeth Rao is accused of unauthorised surveillance, including interception of private phone calls of political leaders, journalists, and senior officials without legal approval. The investigation is ongoing.
