A functionary of the Hindu Munnani was brutally murdered by unidentified assailants near his residence at Kumaranandapuram in Tiruppur city on Wednesday (June 25, 2025) morning.
The deceased Balamurugan, 30, who was engaged in textile and financial businesses, was speaking to his friends when he was chased by the assailants and hacked to death on the spot with weapons, eyewitnesses reportedly told the police. A team of police personnel attached to the Tiruppur North station found his body parts strewn across the ground after the bloody attack, local sources said.
After a preliminary inquiry, the police suspect that rivalry within the organisation, which arose due to his elevation earlier this year, may have led to the murder.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Pravin Gautham inspected the scene of the crime. Three special teams were formed, and vehicle checks were carried out at various locations in the city in pursuit of the assailants.
Suspecting the involvement of a former Hindu Munnani functionary Suman, 32, in the crime, a police team secured him in Palakkad, Kerala, for questioning. The police are also on the lookout for his accomplice, Narasimha Pravin, 29.
Kishore Kumar, State general secretary of Hindu Munnani, said Suman had exited the outfit to join another organisation, and demanded that a proper investigation be conducted, citing a previous incident of murder of another Hindu Munnani functionary in the Golden Nagar locality.
