Puttur MLA Ashok Kumar Rai has said that Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) will commence non-stop services between district headquarters Mangaluru and Puttur for the benefit of commuters.
He was speaking at a meeting with KSRTC officials to assess deficiency of bus services in the constituency, at the MLA’s office in Putur on June 23. He told the officials not to discontinue any service during the monsoon as such a move would affect students. He told them to inform him if there is a shortage of buses.
The non-stop service from Puttur to State Bank terminal in Mangaluru would start with six buses. The services would not stop at places en-route and end trips at the respective destinations. At present, express services halt at important stops en-route, which inconveniences point-to-point travellers. Following requests by such passengers, the non-stop services were being introduced, he said. One could reach the destination within an hour. Brand new coaches would be pressed into service, he added.

SPECIAL ARRANGEMENT
Crew posted at Puttur
The MLA further said the corporation has posted 326 drivers-cum-conductors to Puttur division of KSRTC following the recently concluded recruitment drive. He had demanded posting of at least 500 crew, and the balance crew would be posted subsequently, he said.
As there is no shortage of buses, posting of new crew should help the corporation operate more services on all identified routes. The corporation has stipulated that the newly-recruited crew should work in Puttur division for at least five years, Mr. Rai said.
The MLA said the corporation would start Ambari Utsav air-conditioned bus services from Mangaluru to Bengaluru via Vitla, Puttur and Uppinangady following demand from residents in and around Vitla. The government and the corporation would not hesitate to operate services wherever there is demand.
Divisional Controller Amalingaiah Hosa Poojary, Divisional Traffic Manager Jaishanth Kumar and others were present at the meeting.
