A 16-year-old girl from West Bengal was rescued by police in Perundurai on Monday (June 30, 2025) after she was allegedly abducted and brought to Tamil Nadu by a 23-year-old man who had promised to marry her.
The accused, Samrat Sardar, had been working at a factory in the Perundurai SIPCOT industrial area, which employs workers from various states. Police said he befriended the girl in West Bengal and, in April, allegedly convinced her to come with him to Perundurai under the guise of marriage. The two were living together in a rented house in Panickampalayam. After the girl went missing, her parents lodged a complaint with the West Bengal police.
Investigations revealed that she had been taken to Erode district. A police team from West Bengal, with the support of Perundurai police, located the girl and rescued her. The accused was arrested on charges of abduction and is currently under investigation.
