The Mico Layout police on Tuesday arrested the 35-year-old owner of a paying guest (PG) facility for allegedly raping a 21-year-old resident, after she confessed to stealing three rings from another girl in the PG.
The accused, Ravi Teja Reddy, has been booked for rape and arrested. The victim, a nursing graduate and a native of Andhra Pradesh, had joined the PG facility run by Reddy a week ago and was looking for a job.
According to the police, the victim had reportedly stolen three gold rings from another PG resident and even disconnected the CCTV camera wire.
However, she had asked another resident whether the video would be recorded even after the wire was disconnected, which was relayed to Reddy. Suspicious, Reddy summoned her for questioning and threatened to hand her over to the police, which forced her to allegedly confess.
Based on the confession, Reddy asked his associates to retrieve the valuables. The victim reportedly requested him to let her go and not to hand her over to the police. Taking advantage of this, Reddy allegedly raped her.
The victim was initially hesitant to file a complaint but later revealed it to her male friend, who in turn sought the help of his friend, a city-based advocate to file a police complaint. Based on the complaint, the police subjected the victim for medical examination which proved sexual assault. Reddy was arrested soon after.
