Members of Federation of Revenue Associations (FERA) boycotted their routine work on Wednesday pressing for their long-pending charter of demands.
The employees right from village administrative officer, land surveyor upto Tahsildar struck work by taking casual leave for the day.
Most of the offices, including Taluk offices remained deserted with only skeletal staff turning up for duty.
“The routine work has been crippled due to the boycott of work,” said Tamil Nadu Revenue Officers’ Association district president, S. Palanikumar.
Hundreds of members of the federation took out a rally from D block towards the Ramanathapuram Collectorate and staged a dharna. Federation coordinators, Muthuramalngam, Jeganathabhoopathi, Boominathan, state secretary of TNROA, Kasinathadurai, were among those who took part.
The seven point charter of demands included special law to protect employees and officials from attacks. All the vacant posts in the Revenue Department should be filled up at the earliest.
With the burden of officials and employees in Revenue and Survey Department has increased manifold over the years, they should be given improved salaries.
The practice of deploying workers through private agency, on temporary basis and on consolidated pay should be given up and the vacancies should be filled up as a permanent measure.
