The six-floor building of the regional centre of Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, along with the state-of-the-art skill laboratory and sports hub, is likely to be ready by September 2026. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, in January, laid the foundation stone for the building being constructed at a cost of ₹49 crore.
“The construction period is 21 months. The contractor has agreed to complete the construction within the stipulated period,” Minister for Medical Education Sharanprakash Patil told the media here after inspecting the ongoing construction work being taken up using RGUHS funds, he said.
The government has announced in the budget to have six state-of-the-art laboratories in the State. Apart from Mangaluru, skill laboratories will be set up in Davangere, Kalaburagi, Mysuru, Hubballi, and Bengaluru. Buildings are ready in Davangere and Kalaburagi, and tenders will be called shortly for establishing skill laboratories there. Buildings have to be built in the remaining places, he said.
According to the building plan, the Mangaluru regional office will be located on the ground floor, while vehicle parking will be situated on the basement level. A portion of the ground, first, and second floors will be used for a skills laboratory. An auditorium will come up on the second floor. The third floor will have a gymnasium and a facility for indoor games. There will be a basketball court, a volleyball court, and three badminton courts on the fourth floor.
Later, the Minister visited the Government Tool Room and Training Centre in Baikampady.
