Son arrested for killing mother

The Manipal police have arrested Eshwar Naika, 26, on the charge of murdering his mother Padmabai by smothering her to death on June 19.

In a press release, the police said Naika called the police on June 19 to say that his mother was lying still on her bed. She was brought to the Government Hospital in Udupi where the doctors declared her dead at 10 a.m. With the doctors pointing out at red mark on her neck, the police registered a case of unnatural death.

The forensic science department of KMC hospital gave report on June 21 stating that Padmabai had been smothered to death between 9.20 p.m. of June 18 and 10 a.m. of June 19. The police then turned the case into that of murder.

The investigation revealed that Naika, out of his need for money and family feud, smothered his mother to death. He was arrested for the offence punishable under Section 103 of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and produced before the court, the police stated.
